London – A City Through Time is a brilliant app that takes you through London’s long and turbulent past. The ‘Timeline’ section is the app’s centrepiece and is a wonderful piece of design, showing a visual chronological history of key periods, events and people in London over the past 2,000 years – find out about fires, battles, plagues, kings and queens and much more. Clicking on the musical note (top right) will even play you some evocative music from each period. The ‘Audio visual history’ section introduces you to archive videos, old London maps and panoramic views. The ‘Browse by Subject’ section links to a huge archive of information about London and it’s people. We think that the app would benefit from some new content and updates (for example, the audio tours section is quite limited and the map and ‘History on the Tube’ sections could be added to and improved). But overall this is a lovely app made by people who obviously have a genuine passion for London and its past. As with it’s companion version for the iPhone, the ‘Timeline’ section alone is well worth the purchase price.
